The Dodgers can’t dodge an early playoff exit

Published: October 16, 2022
By Mykell Mathieu

After one of the greatest regular seasons of any NL team ever, the Dodgers were shockingly eliminated by rival San Diego Padres in the NLDS.

Los Angeles took care of business game one but went on to lose the next 3 games of the series. The Dodgers were eliminated on Saturday October 15th after a 5-3 defeat at San Diego losing the series three games to one.

Coming off of a season which the team won a franchise record 111 games, this early exit is really surprising. The team came in as the favorite to win another World Series title but didn’t come close.

The top front office executive, Andrew Friedman, called this the most disappointing elimination in his eight year tenure.

Will there be changes at the top? Friedman doesn’t think there will be any moves made when it comes to coaching.

“I don’t anticipate [any changes] right now,” he said.

When it comes to players he had a different tone. With several players having the potential to leave or be moved.

“Just trying to find any levers or anything we can do to help put us in a better position next year.”

This team had high expectations coming into this season and will have high expectations once again.

How this offseason goes when it comes to names like Clayton Kershaw, Trea Turner, Cody Bellinger or other talented available players will tell us exactly where the future of the Dodgers is heading towards.

The Dodgers prepare for their hopeful World Series run

The Los Angeles Dodgers have looked like the best team in baseball since the beginning of the year and will look to finish the job with another World Series title.

Big Blue finished the season with 111 wins and they joined a group of only six other teams in the history of the MLB to win as many games. With those 111 wins, Los Angeles is the first NL team to win that many games since 1909. The Dodgers are also the first team in league history with at least 106+ wins for three consecutive seasons.

The NL West Division champions won their division by an astounding 20+ games over the second place San Diego Padres who they will face off against in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Los Angeles led the majors in runs scored (847) led by All Stars Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Trea Turner. The team also had the lowest ERA allowing only 2.80 earned runs per game.

The Dodgers are going into the playoffs trying to see who makes their postseason roster. When you win as many games as this team you have more than enough talent to win it all, but, must decide who these players are. The team is only allowed 26 available spots on their playoff roster.

The big question is who will close for the team with the best overall record in the playoffs. Eight-time All Star Craig Kimbrel underperformed and was replaced in September. The team finished the season with a closer by committee. We know who it won’t be. So who will it be: Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips or maybe even Dustin May could be a surprise name.

The Dodgers are the heavy favorites to bring another title home to LA. Let’s see if the Dodgers can win and do it for Vin.

The Dodgers are the first to clinch a playoff berth

The Dodgers are headed back to the playoffs for the 10th straight season after their 6-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Los Angeles actually thought they clinched their spot in the postseason Sunday after defeating the Padres celebrating with a postgame toast and receiving postseason caps.

The MLB said ‘Not so fast’. The MLB stated that they didn’t take into account that the Dodgers could end up in a three way tie with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals if they all ended up with a 96-66 record. That would’ve also took the Padres to win out and winning the NL West.

But this is no longer an issue after Monday night’s win. The Dodgers now 54 games over .500 are looking to stay healthy and continue their dominate play as they prepare for another World Series run.

The 10 straight appearances in the postseason is the third longest streak in MLB history. Only the Braves (14) and Yankees (13) have had better streaks.

The Dodgers also clinched the NL West with their win Tuesday night against Arizona.

Led by superstar Mookie Betts, the Dodgers are the clear favorites coming down the stretch. Lets see if they can keep things rolling as October approaches.

Dustin May performs well in first game back against the Marlins

Dustin May made his return to the mound for the first time since May 21, 2021 picking up the 7-0 victory over the Miami Marlins.

May got himself in a jam early allowing the bases to become loaded in the top of the 1st inning. He was able to stay focus and escape without giving up a run after striking out Marlins catcher Nick Fortes to end the inning.

May pitched 5 scoreless innings, striking out 9 while giving up only a single hit.

With more performances like this, May will add another solid starter to the Dodgers bullpen. He was  excited to return after more than a year away.

“It’s super exciting to know that I’m back and that I can go get guys out when I need to and that I can get out of a jam when I put myself into one,” May said. “That was a huge confidence boost... I’m just glad to get the first one out of the way and to know I came out of it healthy and strong, and now I can get ready for the next one.”

The pitcher was aided early when catch Will Smith hit a 3-run homer in the first and the Dodgers never looked back.

Four more runs in the 3rd put the game away early and helped put the game in a stranglehold for the top seeded team in the NL.

The win gave the Dodgers their 8th straight win at home. As Big Blue looks to inch closer to 100 wins on the season and secure the top seed in the playoffs.

The Dodgers continue their winning ways even after trailing early by coming back to defeat the the Minnesota Twins, 8-5.

The Dodgers trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the 5th inning when catcher Will Smith doubled to deep right center to bring in Trea Turner to tie it at four apiece.
Big Blue wasn’t done!

In the sixth inning, Chris Taylor hit a go-ahead home run to put the Dodgers up 5-4. Los Angeles wasn’t done as Joey Gallo’s 3-run shot over the left center wall put the game away.

“Since the first day I got here, they said it’s not about immediate results, just about the process and getting back to the player I know I can be.” The former New York Yankee has played well his first two games in royal blue and white. “I think it’s just the work that we’ve been doing with the hitting coaches,” Gallo said of his success in their last two games.

The Dodgers are hopeful that Gallo could be another spark to a team who has been the best team in baseball most of the year. The team now travels to Kansas City to face the Royals to try to keep their winning streak going.

Dodgers fall at home to the Nationals

The Dodgers fail to keep up with the visiting Washington Nationals losing by a final score of 8-3.

After starter Mitch White gave up two early runs, outfielder
Mookie Betts, leadoff batter for the Dodgers hit his 23rd home run.

The scoring stalled until the fifth inning when former NL MVP Cody Bellinger hit his 13th home run of the year to tie the game up at 2 apiece. Later in the inning, Freddie Freeman’s sac fly brought Trayce Thompson home from third to take a 3-2 lead.

However, that’s when it all went downhill for Big Blue. The bullpen gave up 6 runs in the last two innings and the Dodgers fell for the second straight night to the Washington Nationals.
